Step 3: Grab and Align New Belt. Title says it all. Be sure that you have the correct size (length and width) for your sander type. Make sure to place the belt in the correct direction. As you can see in the picture there are arrows on the inside of the belt. There should be a clearly marked arrow on your sander as well.

Okay, here are some pix of the old South Bend lathe. The first one is just a general view of the saddle and tailstock end. Next is a closer view of the saddle. Notice that there is no index dial for threading. The machine seems to have the proper hardware in place to thread, along with a chart attached to the guard that covers the gears.

The belts are metric so you need to do the conversion. Most counter guys in parts stores are used to just looking the make and model of car so it may be a little difficult to get the belt you need. Usually though, the length of the belt is part of the manufacturer's part number, but may not be part of the sku number in the parts store nomenclature.
